The best places to eat in Mumbai
Being the home of the Bollywood, Mumbai has food from all over the world. And while its 'Little Italy', as the residents are fond of calling the area around Churchgate station, is also popular with travelers to the city, its true food mecca is south Mumbai, around Charni Road.
Every street corner and corner shop has its own little restaurant, serving a variety of cuisines from Indian to European and Chinese. In recent years, there has been a rise in authentic Italian restaurants, serving genuine pasta, pizza, and focaccia. But there are also plenty of restaurants serving fast food. And one of the best places to enjoy authentic Mumbai street food is at Chor Bazaar, Charni Road. In the evenings, the crowds will have thinned and the street will be filled with shop owners, vendors and families heading home. Chor Bazaar is like a huge open market, with rows and rows of shops. One of the stalls is selling some of the best chana chaat.
Even if you don't know much about Mumbai street food, you can still sample some of the best the city has to offer. Even those of us in the West who think we know everything about Indian food are shocked when our friends or relatives tell us about their favourite Mumbai street food.
Chor Bazaar offers a full-spectrum of street food, from sweet shops selling kulfi to paans and pakoras to a bakery selling fresh breads, freshly made sandwiches, and lots of other goodies. There are also plenty of good vegetarian restaurants. But Chor Bazaar is by far the best place to find authentic Mumbai street food.
But if you don't want to make a trip out to Chor Bazaar, you can get some tasty street food at some of the shops, cafes and restaurants on Charn
